Slow? Bicyclist?
Yes, it’s possible. As an avid recreational bicyclist living in a (fairly) bicycle-friendly town, I spend a lot of time around people whose main goal is to go faster, faster, faster. I’m a little different, in many ways. I haven’t always been a bicyclist, or even an athlete. I ride with exercise-induced asthma, which teaches me a lot about my limits and how to push them.
And I ride for different reasons — for the freedom of it, for the feeling of the wind on my face, for the chance to let go of the worries of a busy job, to feel grounded and connected to the world around me. And I ride to experience the world around me — at a pace that lets me really take time to experience things fully.
This blog is a chance to talk about bicycling from the perspective of a “slowpoke” — why I ride, how it’s different, the joys and challenges. I welcome ideas and conversation, and hope to meet some of you down the road!
Slowjourner Truth agrees!
I am excited about your new blog, and so inspired by you. We go back a long way in time, and I remember when you would not have thought of tackling a bicycle, and now, you can do Brag, not just once, by annually for the past 7 years. You are truly amazing, girl, in so many ways. I look forward to reading about your adventures. Safe biking! Marie
